Why CP THUNDER?

If you have ever attended the Sports Car Club of America National Solo2 Event held every September in Topeka Kansas you would understand.  One of our traditions is prior to our first heat all the CP drivers gather at the starting line for a meeting led by our official leader and mentor, Grayden Obenour.  After his inspiring speech and a few loud chants, all the drivers return to the starting grid and fire up their cars.  One announcer estimated we had over 20,000 gross horsepower sitting in grid last year.  If you have ever heard this much horsepower, felt the ground shake or just felt it change the rythym of your heartbeat, you understand why this page got its name…..CP THUNDER!!!

CP, short for ‘C’ Prepared was the largest class of autocross cars attending the National event the last two years, setting attendance records both years.  Our goal this year is to have 100 drivers if not 100 cars!  CP is made up mainly of good old American muscle cars with Camaros, Firebirds and Mustangs dominating the class.  Pretty much anything goes as far as modifications with some mods carrying weight penalties but overall, the competition level is pretty equal.

As for ‘who’ CP is?  We are the known as the party bunch in SCCA.  We have a CP picnic early in the week at nationals usually attracting a large majority of the other drivers and families.  Lasting well into the night, bench racing abounds to the sound of the worlds only multi horsepower margarita machine (bring a bottle of tequila if you want to attend!).  The picnic always seems to spawn its own stories that are faithfully retold (usually to the chagrin of someone in the crowd) at subsequent gatherings………
